An exceptionally rare Russian Tsarist presentation stick pin with the cipher of the Hermitage - Cyrillic letter ' Э ' (for Эрмитаж) beneath Imperial crown, made in St Petersburg between 1899 and 1904.
The crown is set with two rose-cut diamonds, the cipher with a blue sapphire.
Length 3 1/4 in. (8,3 cm)
Marked with 56 zolotniks standard (583 - 14K gold), assayer's initials of Yakov Liapunov, and initials of Faberge's workmaster August Hollming (a star between 'A' and 'H').
Scratched inventory number '1338' of His Majesty's Cabinet on the back.
Below are Faberge's drawings of gold pins commemorating visit to the Tsar's estate at Skernivitsy. The designs of the gold 'C' ciphers incorporating a sapphire are somewhat similar to the design of the Hermitage pin.
