Made in Moscow in 1883
An antique lemon yellow 14K gold ornate cross is hand-engraved with Russian-style scrolling foliage.
The engraved inscription on the back in Old Slavonic script reads: SAVE AND PROTECT.
Cyrillic abbreviation on the upper arm of the cross refers to the title board which Pilate ordered to be hung in mockery over Christ’s head.
The board was inscribed: “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews”.
‘IC’ – ‘XC’ on both sides of the cross stand for Jesus Christ.
Marked on the back with 56 zolotnik Imperial gold standard, Moscow assay mark, date ‘1883’ and maker’s initials.
