An Antique Demantoid, Diamond and Gold Pendant
Made in Moscow between 1899 and 1908
The pendant is designed in Russian Modern style of the early 20th century.
Height with bail – 64 mm (2 1/2 in.)
A large gold triangular frame with two curved sides, split into four smaller congruent triangles with demantoids hanging from each one.
Below, another triangle is attached, with a demantoid inside and with one hanging from it.
The intersections of the frame and the bail are ornamented with rose cut diamonds.
All demantoids are of a uniform golden green color. They all have famed horsetail inclusions typical for Russian demantoids from the Ural Mountains.
The total demantoid weight is 5.28 ct, with three stones being over 1 ct each.
All demantoids except the smallest one (in the lower triangle) were taken out of the settings for weighing.
The top drop shaped demantoid is 0.84 ct.
The center three oval demantoids are (from left to right) – 0.85 ct, 1.11 ct and 1.03 ct.
The lowest demantoid is 1.04 ct.
The estimated weight of the smallest demantoid is 0.41 ct.
Marked on the frame with 56 zolotnik gold standard (14K) with initials of Moscow assay master Ivan Lebedkin (1899-1908) and makers’s initials ‘IP’.
The bail is struck with maker’s initials and a Moscow assay mark.
