An Art Nouveau Antique Demantoid and Gold Brooch Pin

Made in Kazan between 1899 and 1908.

The brooch is designed as a flower in Art Nouveau taste of the period, handcrafted in 14K rose gold,

set with apple green Russian demantoid garnets from the Ural Mountains.

The brooch is marked on the frame with 56 zolotnik gold standard (14K)

with initials ‘ И А ‘ for Kazan head assay master Ivan Ado (1899-1908) and maker’s initial ‘ И ‘; as well as,

on the pin guard, with an assayer’s mark and the maker’s initial.

The pin has been replaced between 1908 and 1917, and is stamped with Moscow assay mark for 56 zolotnik gold (14K).
