Central European, early 1900s.

The 14K gold pendant with engraved border features a finely enameled Madonna Dolorosa inspired by the 17th century painting La Dolorosa by Spanish artist Esteban Murillo.

The back of the pendant is enameled with the following inscription in Latin:

“Madonna Dolorosa ora pro nobis!”

The inscription could be translated as:

Suffering Mother, pray for us!

The pendant measures (without bail) 28 x 21 mm (1 1/8 x 13/16 in.)
