The Malachite Plates
are porcelain plates with borders hand painted to imitate malachite. Each border is painted as a combination of eight malachite pieces, which look as if they were arranged to match each other’s pattern.
Center of the plates is painted with one of two types of Imperial eagles: the 18th century variety from the Berlin service and a later type of eagle from the period of Nicholas II.
Later Imperial Eagle from the reign of Nicholas II
Idea of the design is mine, the plates are exclusively produced for and sold only at RomanovRussia.com. They are hand painted in St Petersburg by an artist, who devoted a great deal of time to studying the structure of natural malachite. Multi firing of each plate insures that the painting is durable, washable and safe in use. Because of the gilded decorations the plates are not suitable for microwave and are not recommended for dishwasher. Blank plates of the Lomonosov Factory are mostly used. Diameter 9 1/2 in. (24,2 cm).
