Imperial presentation gold cufflinks from Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich, made in St. Petersburg between 1908 and 1917, shaped as his cipher – interlaced ‘M’ and ‘A’ under the Russian Imperial crown. The crown is set with cabochon sapphires. Height 7/8 in. (2,2 cm). Condition: light wear.

Extremely Rare

Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich (1878 – 1918), the younger brother of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Nicholas abdicated in favour of Michael on 2 March 1917. One day later Michael signed a renouncement manifesto. On June 12, 1918 in the town of Perm (the Urals) Michael and his secretary were taken by a car to the outskirts of town where they were shot and their bodies were burnt. In fact, he was the last czar of Russia, although his reign was less than one day.
