Portrait miniature on ivory, circa 1790, of Anshef-General prince Nicholas Repnin (1734-1801), wearing the uniform of the Life Guard Izmailovsky Regiment, sash of the Order of St George, and officer’s gorget of the regiment with St Andrew cross and blue St Andrew neck ribbon. The Order of St George, the most prestige Russian military award, was instituted by Catherine II in 1769. In the 18th century, only 8 persons were awarded with the 1st class badges of the Order. Among them – Nicholas Repnin, who received the 1st class badge in 1790 for the victory over the Turks at Matchin. Diameter 2 1/4 in. (5,8 cm). Hairline crack near the left rim.
