Rome, circa 1875
An antique gilded bronze jewelry box features a fine micro mosaic view of the Colosseum (Coliseum) in Rome by a prominent micro mosaic artisan Cesare Roccheggiani. The walls of the box are embellished with a champleve enamel stylized vine branch.
A pale pink silk lining of the box is stamped in gold with a royal Italian coat-of-arms and C. Roccheggiani Roma.
Cesare Roccheggiani worked at the Vatican Micro Mosaic Workshops from 1856 till 1864. In 1874 he set up his own workshop.
