This pair of antique Russian 14K gold earrings was made in Moscow between 1889 and 1898.
The earrings are set with two sparkling medium to dark purple Siberian amethysts and two Russian demantoids.
The amethysts measure 9 x 8.6 x 7.6 mm and 9.1 x 8.6 x 7.5 mm. Estimated weight: 3.43 ct and 3.42 ct.
The demantoids measure 4.5 x 2.3 mm and 4.3 x 2.6 mm, approximately 0.33 ct and 0.34 ct.
Marked with 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard, Moscow assay mark, and assayer’s initials ‘AA’ for Anatoly Arzybashev.
Weight 2.4 and 2.2 grams.
Length with ear wire is 20 mm (13/16 in.)
The earrings have back to front closures, which are comfortable to wear, but might take some time to get used to putting them on. This type of closure was very popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
