An Exceptional Antique Russian Gold and Painted Enamel Cross Pendant

Made in St. Petersburg between 1882 and 1898

This very high quality cross of an elaborate shape is handcrafted in polished 14K gold, finely enameled with Crucifix, and engraved with stylized scrolling foliage and zig zag border.

Such enameled crosses were popular in the late 19th century and were primarily produced by St. Petersburg jewelers.

This is an outstanding cross pendant. It is bigger in size than similar crosses of that period, the shape is very unusual, and quality of the enamel work is exceptional.

The cross pendant is in perfect condition.

Height without ring – 1 7/8 in. (48 mm).

The Cyrillic abbreviation on the white enamel scroll on the upper arm of the cross stands for: JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS

The cross is marked on back with 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard (14K) and maker’s initials ‘ ? ? ‘
