A Late Georgian – Early Victorian Era Diamond and Gold Ring
Russian, circa 1830
The ring is centered with a foil-backed old rose cut diamond (5.9 – 5.5 x 3 mm, approximately 0.80 ct) in a silver cut-down closed back setting,
surrounded by a row of tiny rose cut diamonds set in silver.
The shoulders of the ring are elaborately carved with scrolling floral designs.
US ring size – 10 (20 mm)
Marks on shank – maker’s initials ‘ F F ‘, 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard (14K), later marks for 583 gold and 875 silver from the 1930s (Moscow).
The ring is struck with original c. 1830 gold hallmarks as well as a set of later Soviet control stamps from the 1930s
which indicate that the ring was sold at that time through a state owned shop.
