St. Petersburg, circa 1890
The egg pendant is carved from golden brownish-reddish agate and displays a beautiful chatoyancy, known as the cat’s-eye effect, which appears as softly blurred reflective lines running across the surface of the stone.
The gold suspension ring is marked with the 56-zolotnik old Russian gold standard (14K) and the pre-1899 Saint Petersburg assay mark in the form of two crossed anchors and a scepter.
Height without the suspension ring is 17 mm (11/16 in.)
