This Art Nouveau antique pendant features a finely carved bone relief of Saint Joseph holding baby Jesus. The relief is laid on a plique-à-jour enamel plaque and set in an elaborate two-tone matte gold, platinum and rose cut diamond bezel.
Plique-à-jour (French for “letting in daylight”) is a vitreous enamelling technique which resembles stained glass. The technique was especially popular in Art Nouveau era jewelry of the 1890s – early 1900s.
Marked with maker’s mark on bail.
