circa 1820
This post-Napoleonic–era embossed high-karat gold (approximately 22.5 kt) necklace and earrings parure is set with various-cut amethysts, citrines, and greenish-blue aquamarines. The girandole form of the pendant and earrings was particularly popular during the Bourbon Restoration in France, echoing the celebrated girandole designs of the 18th century.
After the end of the naval wars, a renewed supply of amethysts, aquamarines, and citrines reached Europe from Brazil and Mexico. These brightly colored gemstones were soon incorporated into fashionable parures such as this one.
