An antique Russian porcelain tazza (footed bowl) from the Kremlin service
the Imperial Porcelain Factory (St. Petersburg), period of Alexander II (1855-1881)
The bowl is painted with a black Tsarist double headed eagle on a green rosette. The exterior is decorated with stylized floral designs against solid gold ground.
The service was made for the Grand Kremlin Palace and was used at coronations and other important banquets such as the Romanov dynasty Tercentenary celebration in 1913
The design of this tazza derived from the 17th century gold Turkish bowl owned by Tsarina Natalia (1651-1694). Therefore its decoration combined Oriental and Old Russian motifs.
The tazza is coated with gilding to look like its gold prototype.
Green factory mark in the form of Alexander II cipher (on foot) and decorator’s Cyrillic initials ‘ц д’ (under base).

Condition: a very minor wear to gilding on rim, some faint scratches to polished gold ground from use, otherwise excellent.
