This highly unusual 14k gold locket egg pendant was made between 1908 and 1917. The egg is encircled with six hearts, each centered with a star, and embellished with blue, green, and red guilloche enamels. The central ribbon is of white opaque enamel. One side of the egg has a Russian abbreviation ‘X B’ for ‘ХРИСТОС ВОСКРЕСЕ’, which translates as ‘CHRIST IS RISEN.’
It is highly unusual that the interior is fitted with two miniature glazed picture frames. One frame is still set with a female photograph which appears to be original to the egg.
The egg is marked on the smaller ring with 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard (14K).
Length without suspension ring is 18 mm (11/16 in.)
