Large Imperial presentation porcelain Easter egg, circa 1890, made at the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The egg is covered with dark red and lilac glaze known as sang de boeuf (ox blood) with a slip creating pale blue highlights. One side of the egg is embellished with a gilded cipher of Empress Maria Feodorovna (mother of Tsar Nicholas II).
The matte gold cipher ‘МФ’ is partially polished and etched for extra texture.
