Autograph of Czar Nicholas II
An antique French postcard with a portrait of Russian Czar Nicholas II wearing a hussar uniform and cross of the Order of St Vladimir.
The picture was taken by photographer of the Imperial Court Pasetti (St Petersburg).
The card is signed in black ink by Tsar Nicholas II – Nicholas.
Provenance:
This card was personally given by the Tsar in Paris, in October 1896, to Baron Louis Peter von Wester-Waggoner who at that time held several diplomatic posts in Paris representing the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Nicholas II attended the ceremony for laying of the stone at the beginning of the Pont Alexander III construction. The bridge was named after Nicholas’ father, and it is one of the most beautiful Parisian bridges. According to the Baron’s family, the card was given at that ceremony. Baron von Wester-Waggoner emigrated to the United States in 1914.
The card was kept in the family since 1896.
