Lacquer Easter Egg-Box, circa 1915, by Alexander Vishniakov and Sons Manufactory, composed of two halves, one finely painted with the Anastasis against a red ground, the other half showing an Angel Guardian, enriched with gilding, decorated along the opening with traditional Old Slavonic foliage, the interior inscribed “From Old Ritualists (or Old Believers) of Petrograd (St.Petersburg) Gromovskoy Commune”. Height 3 5/8 in. (9 cm).

Inscription at the top reads “Resurrection of Christ”.

Cyrillic inscription above the angel reads “Angel Guardian”.

Comes with a rare original cardboard box with Vishniakov Manufactory paper label, decorated with Imperial warrant and line drawings of various awards of the firm.
