High-karat gold (approximately 19.54 Kt), emeralds, and natural pearls; filigree cannetille work
This exceptionally fine Maltese cross pendant is crafted in high-karat gold using the delicate filigree cannetille technique, a style highly fashionable in Europe during the 1820s and 1830s. The intricate goldwork is enriched with natural pearls and bluish-green emeralds, their soft luster and color providing a striking contrast to the warm yellow tone of the gold.
This two-hundred-year-old pendant exemplifies the technical refinement and ornamental delicacy that define early 19th-century European jewelry craftsmanship.
