An Antique Jeweled Gold Miniature Egg

Made in St. Petersburg between 1882 and 1898

by the jeweler of the Russian Imperial Court, Frederic Koehly (Friedrich Koehli).

Koehli’s jewelry is easily recognizable by the bold three dimensional designs, and his gold pieces always have a heavy look.

Koehli was a contemporary of Faberge and also produced egg jewelry.

Besides being a Court jeweler, similar to Faberge, Koehli’s firm was also a jewelry appraiser for His Majesty’s Cabinet.

The gold egg is decorated all over with raised swags and floral designs.

The front and back are set with cabochon cut sapphires and the sides with two pairs of rose cut diamonds.

Marked with maker’s initials ‘F * K’ , St. Petersburg city stamp and 56 zolotnik gold standard (14K).
