made in St. Petersburg in the 1880s by one of the best Russian jewelers of the period – Samuel Arnd.

The 14K matte gold earrings are designed in medieval Byzantine style with gold filigree and granulation. The earrings are set with four cabochon cut rubies and small rose cut diamonds.

The two larger rubies are approximately 1.11 ct (6.52 x 5.55 x 2.85 mm) and 0.90 ct (6.40 x 5.19 mm x 2.50 mm). Estimated total ruby weight is 2.32 ct. The rubies are likely of a Burma origin.

The earrings are marked with 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard (14K), maker’s initials ‘SA’, later 1908-1917 St. Petersburg assay mark and a Soviet control mark from the 1930s for 583 gold standard. Apparently, the earrings closures were repaired or partially replaced in the early 1900s.
