This superbly crafted large antique Russian gold locket is decorated with filigree (twisted gold threads) in the style of ancient Greek and Etruscan jewelry.
The locket is centered with a large natural pearl (7.7 mm) surrounded by a row of bright blue channel-set calibre cut sugarloaf cabochon turquoise.
The interior of the locket is set with two miniature picture frames.
The back is stamped with 56 zolotnik gold standard (14K) with a symbol for St. Petersburg and maker’s initials ‘AT’ in rectangular shaped stamp for Alexander Treiden, a prominent St. Petersburg jeweler of the period.
Length with bail is 57 mm (2 1/4 in.), w/o bail – 42 mm (1 5/8 in.)
