This finely engraved antique 14K gold cross pendant of a traditional Russian Orthodox shape was made in St. Petersburg between 1882 and 1899 by Rudolf Weide, a prominent jeweller of the period.
The abbreviation ‘IC’ – ‘XC’ on the horizontal arms of the cross stands for Jesus Christ.
Engraved inscription on back reads “SAVE AND PROTECT”.
Marked with 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard (14K), maker’s initials ‘PB’, and St. Petersburg coat-of-arms.
The cross measures (without suspension ring) 39 x 23 mm (1 9/16 x 15/16 in.)
