French, mid 19th century
An antique 18K gold oval locket pendant is set with two cabochon cut almandine garnets. Cabochon cut garnet was called carbuncle during the Victorian era and was especially popular gem in the 1850s-1870s.
The bezels are embellished with white enamel. The interior is set with a glazed miniature picture frame and is engraved with the following inscription:

30 Mars 1852
The pendant is marked with a French eagle-shaped assay mark.
