This small Byzantine ring is crafted in high karat gold, testing approximately 22.39 karats, and is inlaid with a niello cross potent. Simple and elegant in design, it reflects the symbolism of early Christian jewelry.
Crosses potent often appear on Byzantine coins from the 5th to 7th centuries. Designs seen on coins were often repeated in jewelry of the same period, linking personal adornment with imperial and religious imagery.
