made in Saint Petersburg between 1899 and 1908
This original tsarist era Faberge miniature egg pendant features superb coral pink translucent guilloche enamel, a technique for which the firm of Fabergé was renowned. One side of the egg is accented with a faceted greenish-blue zircon.
This shade of pink – often referred to as salmon pink – was one of Faberge’s favored enamel colors and was frequently used on objects such as miniature picture frames and clocks. Egg pendants in this color are rare; we have handled no more than two or three examples over the past 25 years.
The egg is marked on the gold suspension ring with the 56 zolotnik (14K) gold standard, a mark used between 1899 and 1908, and with the workmaster’s initials “AT” for Fabergé’s workmaster Alfred Thielemann.
Height without suspension ring is 16 mm (5/8 in.)
