Sparkling Demantoid Ring
circa 1890
A Russian marquise shaped antique ring: bezel-set with an oval 1.61 ct demantoid garnet of exceptional brilliance.
The demantoid is unusually clean (most stones of this size will be heavily included) and full of fire.
At the bottom, the stone has a tiny “horsetail” – a signature of Uralian demantoids.
Russian demantoids of this size, clarity, and sparkle are very rare.
The demantoid is surrounded by twelve old cut diamonds with estimated combined weight of 0.75 ct (F-G color, SI1 clarity).
The ring is marked with 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard (14K).
The shape of the hallmark indicates that the ring was made between 1882 and 1898.
