This antique locket pendant is finely crafted in 14K gold and silver. It features a large cabochon cut heart shaped garnet called Carbuncle, a very fashionable stone during the mid Victorian era. The garnet has a dark cherry color with flashes of bright red. It is set in an ornate scroll motif openwork bezel embellished with chunky old mine cut diamonds (G-H color, mostly SI clarity). The diamonds are set in silver over gold.
The back is fitted with a glazed compartment. The outer glass has a minor chip. The glass could be replaced with a new one if desired.
The garnet measures 21 x 18 mm. The bezel is 32 x 28 mm (1 1/4 x 1 1/8 in.)
Estimated total diamond weight is 3.20 carats.
