A Very Large Victorian Era Antique Russian Jeweled Gold Locket and Gold Chain
The locket is dated on loop – 1880, the chain was made in St Petersburg between 1899 and 1903.
The highly polished and finely crafted pinkish yellow gold locket pendant is decorated with a gem-set flower.
56 zolotniks gold standard (14K – 583), 1 pear-shaped natural ruby (approximately 0.35 ct), 1 pear-shaped natural emerald (approximately 0.30 ct), 5 rose-cut diamonds.
Condition: some tiny contact marks from use, overall excellent
total weight – 1.11 troy oz. (34,6 grams)
height without bail – 1 7/8 in. (4,9 cm)
Marked on back with 56 Russian Imperial gold standard (14K – 583), assayer’s and workmaster’s initials (rubbed)
The loop is struck with date ‘1880’ and workmaster’s initials.
The interior is set with two glazed miniature picture frames.
The chain is marked with 56 standard with ‘ ЯЛ ‘ for St Petersburg assay master Yakov Liapunov (1899-1903), and workmaster’s initials of Samuel Arnd (SA).
