This rare antique Russian gold and carved pink tourmaline armorial signet ring is marked with St.Petersburg assay mark dated ‘1869’ but the tourmaline intaglio is much older. It dates to circa 1730. The intaglio is engraved with a griffin holding a sword framed by a crowned baroque cartouche. Owner’s initials in Old Slavonic ‘I.I.Ч’ are engraved at the lower edge of the seal.

The ring is marked with 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard (14K), maker’s initials ‘ НЖ’, and St. Petersburg assay mark with date ‘1869’.

The tourmaline intaglio measures 17 x 17 mm (11/16 x 11/16 in.)
