This exquisite Faberge miniature egg pendant was made in Saint Petersburg in the 1890s (before 1899) by head workmaster Michael Perkhin.
The egg is crafted in 18K gold. It features four coral pink translucent guilloche enamel panels separated by glossy white opaque enamel channels. The top and bottom of the egg are embellished with dark green guilloche enamel petal rosettes. The pink enamel panels are highlighted with rose cut diamonds.
The egg is marked with 72 zolotnik old Russian gold standard, St. Petersburg assay mark and workmaster’s initials ‘ М.П ‘ for Michael Perkhin.
The 72 zolotnik standard (18K gold) was rarely used in Russian jewelry. Majority pieces were made in 56 zolotnik standard (14K gold). The 72 mark is usually found on important pieces produced by Faberge.
This egg is very elaborate from the point of design and craftsmanship. The presence of the 72 mark confirms its importance as well.
It is the nicest and most complex Faberge miniature egg we have ever seen.
Height without suspension ring is 21 mm (13/16 in.)
