A Stylish Antique Victorian Era Late 1800s Snake Brooch Pin
made in St. Petersburg between 1882 and 1898
The 14K gold brooch is designed as a stylized coiled snake.
The head of the snake is embellished with a blue sapphire (approximately 0.42 ct) surrounded by numerous rose cut diamonds.
The brooch is marked on the frame and pin with 56 zolotnik gold standard and maker’s initials ‘XB’.
The pin guard is marked with a later Soviet 583 gold mark from the 1930s, which indicates that the brooch was resold through a state owned shop at that time.
