An exquisite miniature icon of Christ Pantocrator, crafted in Moscow around 1890. The central image is overlaid with a gilded silver oklad (riza), richly decorated with shaded cloisonné enamel in the style of 17th-century Russian ecclesiastical art.
The border features large polychrome flowerheads on a soft cream enamel ground, rendered in the traditional Solvychegorsk style associated with Northern Russian icon painting and enameling of the late 17th to early 18th century. Each corner is adorned with a distinctive cross-shaped rosette.
The olive green enamel background is embellished with filigree.
Christ is depicted frontally, with his right hand raised in blessing and his left hand holding the Gospel.
Marked with Moscow assay mark, 84 zolotnik old Russian silver standard and maker’s initials.
Condition: Excellent. Original enamel entirely intact with no chips or restoration.
Dimensions: 8.9 x 7.2 cm (3 ½ x 2 ⅝ in)
A rare and beautifully preserved example of late Imperial Russian icon craftsmanship.
