Elegant Antique Russian Jeweled Girandole Earrings
made in St Petersburg between 1908 and 1917
Earrings with three drop shaped pendants where center piece is slightly lower than the other two, known as Girandole or Chandelier earrings, first appeared in France in the 17th century.
The design was popular throughout the 18th and early 19th century, and it briefly emerged again around 1900.
These Girandole earrings are clearly influenced by Art Nouveau style of the late 19th – early 20th century.
The earrings are formed as sprays of flowers centered with 8 mm milky white opals cut en cabochon with two rose-cut diamonds and six step-cut sapphires, within stylized matted green gold scrolling leaf frames, with three suspended drop-shaped cabochon opal pendants, all claw-set.
