Russian Arts and Crafts Movement of the early 20th century
A highly unusual magazine holder, circa 1910, attributed to the workshops of Moscow Regional Zemstvo (мастерские Московского губернского земства) in the town of Sergeiv Posad.
The wooden stand is mounted with patinated brass appliques chased and embossed with stylized flowers and a bird. The design is influenced by Russian folk tales of the magical glowing bird – the Firebird.
Height 17 1/2 in. (45 cm)
Beautiful olive green patination. Reserves are inlaid with brown leather.
