circa 1880s
This pendant, dating to the late Victorian period, is finely crafted in 14K gold and silver. The central element is a large, high-dome cabochon moonstone, its luminous surface evocative of a full moon. A crescent set with bright white old mine cut and rose cut diamonds on the left side provides a striking visual counterbalance.
Crescent moon jewels, often set with diamonds or colored gemstones, were a popular motif in the late 19th century, reflecting the era’s fascination with celestial themes and the language of sentiment.
The present example is of particular note for its unusual combination of the crescent motif with a full moonstone. This piece may represent a unique or custom commission.
