A Belle Epoque Antique Russian Green Demantoid Garnet Necklace made in Moscow between 1908 and 1917.
The polished rose gold necklace is accented with matte green gold chased leaves and is embellished with 48 sparkling green Russian demantoid garnets. The demantoids display typical “horse tail” inclusions confirming their Ural Mountain origin. Being one of the most brilliant colored gemstones and one of the rarest gems on earth, the demantoid garnet is highly valued for its unmatched ability to reflect light. The name of the gem translates from the Dutch as “similar to diamond”.
The biggest two demantoids have a combined weight of approximately 1.8 ct, and the total approximate weight of all demantoids is around 5.7 carats
