France, Paris, circa 1820
A superbly crafted and exceptionally rare French Bourbon Restoration-era bracelet set with twenty richly hued lavender-purple amethysts in finely detailed 18K gold bezels.
The bracelet is composed of two elegant rows of twenty faceted oval amethysts. Each stone is set within a gold bezel and accented above by stylized fleur-de-lis, the royal emblem of the Bourbon monarchy, and separated by flaming torch motifs, symbolizing eternal light and truth.
This piece was created during the Restoration period (1814–1830), following Napoleon’s abdication and the return of King Louis XVIII to the French throne. The use of fleur-de-lis and neoclassical motifs reflects the political and artistic climate of the time – steeped in symbolism and royal nostalgia.
The bracelet is marked with the rare ram’s head French assay mark (used in Paris between 1819–1838 for 18K gold), a guarantee mark, and a maker’s mark.
