A Russian Imperial school medal in silver for those who graduated with honors from girls’ grammar-schools under the patronage of Empress Maria Alexandrovna (consort of czar Alexander II), struck at St. Petersburg mint around 1863 (see The Description of the Russian Medals by Smirnov, St. Petersburg, 1908, page 331, Nr. 654/a).
Diameter 2 in. (52 mm).
Mirror-like fields, matt bust, lettering, and designs.
Empress Maria Alexandrovna in profile on the obverse/ inscription in sun rays surrounded by grape vine wreath on the reverse.
The medal is signed under the bust by the engraver Brusnitsin.
Condition: two tiny field scratches next to the bust, otherwise virtually mint state with colorful patina.
The medal comes with its original case of issue.
