This antique 18K gold and silver pendant / brooch is designed in the Renaissance style of the 1500s. It features two cabochon cut deep red garnets framed by ornate openwork bezels embellished with numerous old rose cut diamonds. The larger high dome garnet is drilled and applied with a silver flower head centered with a chunky old mine cut diamond. Cabochon cut garnets of a dark red color, also known as carbuncles, were fashionable in the mid 19th century.
Marked on pin guard with maker’s mark and on pin with eagle’s head French assay mark for 750 gold standard (18K).
The pin is detachable and the pin guard is foldable. The smaller garnet pendant is also detachable.
