Silver and gilding
This almond-shaped medieval signet ring is finely modeled in high-grade silver (93.90%) and partially fire-gilded. The bezel is engraved with a mythical creature, possibly a dragon, flanked by a Gothic pointed trefoil and a star. The beast is depicted in three-quarter view, surrounded by engraved footprints that suggest movement and vitality.
Metal analysis indicates that the remaining gilding contains approximately 31.54% pure gold. The presence of a small amount of mercury confirms that the ring was gilded using the ancient “mercury” or “fire gilding” technique.
The ring is structurally solid and fully wearable.
The bezel measures 22 x 12 mm (7/8 x 1/2 in.)
Weight is 10.03 grams
Approximate ring size 10 (21 mm) resizable
