Circa 1800
This elegant and rare Napoleonic-era gold ring (approximately 17.7 kt) is set with a large octagonal faceted citrine. The center of the gemstone is finely carved with a classical Greco-Roman youthful male bust in profile, likely representing Apollo, the god of light, music, and the arts.
The refined neoclassical subject matter and bold gemstone carving are characteristic of jewelry produced during the late 18th to early 19th century, when antiquity strongly influenced artistic taste across Europe, particularly in France.
The ring bears a later French eagle-shaped assay mark, indicating subsequent official testing of the gold.
Metal analysis: 73.77 % gold, 15.91% silver, 10.32% copper.
The bezel measures 29 x 19 mm (1 1/8 x 3/4 in.)
Ring size 7.25 – 7.5 (18 mm) resizable
