Unusual silver and shaded champleve enamel cigarette case in the Chinese style by Khlebnikov, Moscow, 1883, both halfs enameled in centers with a large stylized butterfly over a pink flower, surrounded with engraved and enameled floral designs. 2 3/8 x 4 in. (6 x 10,2 cm). Weight 5.8 oz. (164 g). Condition: a few small repaired chips to enamel.
Struck inside the case on the lid: ‘KHLEBNIKOV’ with Imperial warrant, assayer’s stamp dated ‘1883’ with initials of Vasily Petrov, 88 zolotniks (.916 silver standard), Moscow city mark. Also struck on rim with Cyrillic initials of Ivan Khlebnikov and 88 silver standard.
