The 14K gold locket pendant is completely covered with very fine granulation and filigree designs inspired by ancient Etruscan and Greek jewelry of the Archaic period (7th – 5th centuries BC). The gold chain is woven to resemble ancient chains.
Jewelry in Archaeological Revival style was especially popular in the 1860s and 1870s.
The chain is marked with 1868-1872 Austro-Hungarian import gold mark.
The interior of the locket is fitted with two glazed miniature picture frames.
The pendant measures (without bail) 39 x 30 mm (1 1/2 x 1 3/16 in.)
Length of the chain is 41 cm (16 in.)
Total weight is 23.46 grams.
The necklace is in pristine condition.
