circa 1970
These striking high karat matte gold earrings, of domed bombé form, are evocative of the period’s fascination with futuristic “UFO” motifs.
Each is finely executed in matte 21.6 karat yellow gold and centered with a bezel-set cabochon emerald, the stones well matched for color and proportions. The earrings are fitted with 18 karat white gold clip-backs.
The emeralds are of fine quality, displaying smooth, lustrous surfaces and a vibrant green hue. They measure 10.74 × 9.26 × 5.69 mm (approximately 4.23 carats) and 10.48 × 9.39 × 6.24 mm (approximately 4.59 carats), for an estimated total weight of 8.82 carats.
Marked “900” and “750” to indicate gold purity (21.6 K and 18K), the earrings measure 19 × 17 mm (6/8 × 11/16 inches).
Weight: 6.7 and 6.8 grams
The earrings are preserved in pristine condition and may be converted to earclips for unpierced ears if desired.
