circa 1910
It is likely that the design of this antique 18K gold ring was inspired by Helley’s comet. On May 19, 1910, Earth passed through the 24 million mile long tail of the comet.
The ring is centered with a bright white and very clean old European cut diamond (H color, VVS2 clarity) surrounded by a textured gold design (handmade bark finish) resembling comet’s tail.
The diamond measures approximately 7.5 x 3.5 mm. Estimated weight is 1.24 Ct.
The ring is marked with unidentified assay and maker’s marks and is almost certainly of a Western European origin.
Width at the widest point is 10 mm (7/16 in.)
Weight 8.10 grams.
Ring size 6 (16 mm) sizable
