circa 1790
This impressive late 18th century silver-topped gold ring is vertically set with a large, richly hued royal blue crystal plaque of substantial thickness, centered with three old cut diamonds in silver cut-down settings. The plaque is framed by a border of 24 chunky old mine-cut diamonds, also set in silver over gold. The trefoil-shaped shoulders are embellished with additional old mine-cut diamonds, while the shank is entirely encrusted with old rose-cut diamonds.
The diamond-set shank and trefoil shoulders are later Victorian era replacements dating to the mid to late 19th century, executed to harmonize with the original 18th-century design.
Current ring size is approximately 12.5. The ring can be sized down up to a size 7.5 by cutting out diamond sections of the shank.
The crystal and diamond rectangular top measures 30 x 17 mm (1 3/16 x 2/3 in.)
Weight is 13.9 grams.
Estimated total diamond weight is 5 carats.
