A Victorian Era Jeweled Gold Star Brooch Pin
This antique brooch is designed as a six pointed star centered with a natural medium blue sapphire (approximately 1.52 carats) surrounded with twenty four half pearls.
The border is covered with glossy black enamel.
The brooch was made in Moscow circa 1885.
Width – 1 5/8 in. ( 42 mm )
The pin guard is struck with 56 zolotnik old Russian gold standard (14 – 583), Moscow city mark, maker’s initials, and a Cyrillic ‘L’ mark indicating that the brooch had been sold at a pre-1917 public sale.
The back of the pin is struck with later Soviet control stamps for 583 gold from the 1930s.
